Software UpdatesThis is Apple's latest revision of is operating system software for all Macintosh models. Apple recommends that anyone using System 7.5.3 should upgrade to this version of system software, as it contains many bug fixes for all Mac models, especially PowerPC based models. If you are using System 7.5, Apple recommends that you upgrade to System 7.5.3 with the upgrade 2.0 (available below) and then use this uprade to get to System 7.5.5. Both of theses updates greatly improves system performance and stability, especially on PowerPC based Macs.
The System 7.5 Upadate 2.0 updates System 7.5.x system softaware to System 7.5.3. This is a major upgrade as it includes a plethora of bug fixes (too mant to mention here) on all Macintosh computers, especially PowerPC based models. Of the PowerPC based Macs, the biggest bug fix is the dreaded System error type 11 and "out of memory" errors. Although it doesn't eliminate it completely, it should come pretty close. (On my Performa 6300CD w/PowerPC 603e, I had on some occasions 5 "bombs" a night. Now I have perhaps 5 per month, if I really work at it).
Among other things, this update creates a System folder that will run on all Macintoshes (has a "universal" system file). Also improves drag and drop functionality and is more stable in general. Although most changes are "behind the scenes", one visible improvement is "transluscent dragging". That is, no longer will you see just the outline of an object being clicked and dragged across the screen. You will now have a transluscent image of the oblect you are moving.
Contains extensive information and documentation. Weighing in at 20MB, you may want to wait until late at night or early A.M. to download it, as it will take at least 2 hours (at 28.8Kbps!). This update is available free online, but is available from Apple on CD ROM or 14 floppy disks for $13.
There aren't many things to mention in this update other than a few bug fixes and an improved status window which displays the subject line and size of the message that is being downloaded. Don't let this description discourage you from upgrading, though, as it is well worth it and is free.
Apple's latest version of Quicktime, specially designed for the Internet. Includes new versions of QuickTime, Musical Instruments, and Power Plug extensions. Also includes new version of QuickTime Movie Player.
One of the most visible changes/improvements is the addition of a QuickTime control panel whereby the user can specify certain "automatic" functions with proper software. With a CD ROM drive and necessary software, for example, QuickTime will automatically play an audio or program CD upon insertion.
A must have for avid net users who are concerned about viruses. Automatically updates any and all pertinent virus definitions. Requires Virex version 5.5 or later.
